The London Humane Society has many volunteer positions available to animal lovers in London and area. Volunteer activities range from brushing cats and walking dogs to working on fund raising committees.
What's in it for you? In addition to the personal satisfaction of knowing that you're contributing to the well-being of animals, you'll gain valuable experience, contacts, and the pleasure of working with others who also care deeply about animal welfare.
Please note: volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and be able to perform their duties unsupervised.

Dear Prospective Volunteer:
The London Humane Society would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in our Volunteer Program. Volunteers are essential to the continued success of our shelter. Please note that volunteer positions are available only to those individuals who are 18 years of age or older.
The London Humane Society requires that all volunteer complete an “application form”, general interview and the training session and orientation in their area (s) of interest.
What it means to be a volunteer: Commitment!
We understand that people’s schedules may not always be consistent and that hours of availability may fluctuate, however, we need your commitment to selected programs for our relationship to be mutually beneficial. Volunteers participate in a number of different programs on our behalf and each follow varying timelines. However, in the case of our animal care volunteers, we do require a regular visit to the shelter. A weekly visit is ideal. We would also hope that you have applied with a long -term commitment to the animals in mind.
There are a number of volunteer positions and programs available with our shelter. Some of these programs involve direct contact with the animals in our care, while others are concerned with fundraising and event organization.
Our main annual events are:
Sept-December: Christmas Pet Gifts Preproduction and Sales (sewers and knitters needed year round)
Sales and Information Booths are scheduled at community events throughout the city beginning in late spring and continuing through the summer and early fall. Volunteers help us distribute information such as our “Pawsitive News” Newsletter. We also sell London Humane Society merchandise such as t-shirts, umbrellas and coffee mugs.
In Shelter Opportunities: Dog Walking, Cat Grooming and Rabbit Care. Positions in these popular programs are available on a “need” basis. This need fluctuates throughout the year based on a number of factors. Each position is concerned with the exercise, grooming and socialization of the animals in our care. We need your regular participation in selected programs for our relationship to be mutually beneficial and ask for a weekly visit and a long-term commitment.
We prefer that Dog Walkers members have some knowledge of canine behavior and experience in handling large breeds. These breeds may include German Shepherds, Rottweillers as well as many others. Many of our residents have not received the benefit of training or adequate socialization and require confident as well as caring handling. Please note that all volunteer animal care positions require a scheduled weekly visit. Each area also requires an orientation session where safety, health and handling procedures are outlined.

If one or more of these programs appeals to you please contact the Volunteer & Events Coordinator below, who will go over our current needs to see how they match up to your interests and availability.
If there is a match between our needs and your area of interest an application will be sent out. Acceptance in any volunteer program will be determined after an interview and orientation session (s) have been conducted.
