Water Station Information

The London Humane Society is gearing up for its 27th annual “Bark in the Park” Dog Walk-a-Thon. This year’s walk will be held Sunday June 5th, 2011, at Greenway Park from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

We would like to invite you to become a part of our annual event and we hope it will be our most successful yet. Your participation will go a long way to providing the animals at the shelter with food, warmth and medical attention.

Since 1984 our goal has been to create a fun and informative event that raises both funds and awareness for the London Humane Society while building lasting relationships with members of our community. This family orientated event attracts people of all ages and backgrounds, and takes place in beautiful Greenway Park where a 5km route has been mapped out for our pledge earners. In addition to the walk itself, participants are invited to visit our event tents which house a wide array of exhibitors who offer products, services and information. A showcase of entertainment includes pet trick contests, agility and canine unit demonstrations, CPR and first aid for dogs and product giveaways.

As in past years, we are asking Veterinary Clinics and local businesses to sponsor one of our Water Stations along the 5km route. The requested donation is $250 for our Premium Water Station Sponsorship (Station #1, Senior Turnaround #9, Finish Line #12) and $225 for our Along the Walk Water Station Sponsorship. If you are interested in sponsoring a Water Station, please fill out the Water Station Sponsor application and return it to us by April 22, 2011. Each participating Water Station sponsor will be provided with a standard 8ft folding table and two chairs. You may choose to staff the water stop, or we will schedule volunteers to man the stop if requested at least two weeks in advance of the event. Please specify which option you would like when you book your water station. New: We request that all Water Stations have at least one staff member with access to a cell phone in case of emergencies.

Greenway Park is located off Springbank Drive between Wharncliffe Road and Wonderland Road. Take Springbank Drive to Greenside Avenue. Turn onto Greenside Avenue and the event site is past the pollution plant. Upon confirmation of your Water Station spot you will receive a map and further instructions on how to find your spot on Event Day. Many participants arrive as early as 8:30 a.m. to complete their set up before the 10 am start time for the walk. Your water stop will be provided with a Bark in the Park sponsor sign, that will include your sponsor information/name.  We also supply water, drinking bowls or containers. If you have any questions on the day of the event there will be an Exhibitor Sign In table, located in front of the Showmobile, where a committee member will assist you.

Many past participants have dispensed healthy treats as well as literature on subjects of interest to pet owners. However, please note that due to the lack of a fresh water supply on site, we can only supply water to each stop for canine drinking purposes. We ask that you do not bring balloons to the event as they pose a serious choking hazard to park wildlife. Giveaways are allowed, pending approval. Please check with the Event Coordinator before booking your table.

Each Walk-a-thon participant will be required to visit your table in order to have you “stamp” their “Bingo card”. Once this card is complete, participants enter it into a special draw at the Showmobile for a chance to win our Doggie Delight Gift Basket.

Please note: Your $250 or $225 donation is due in advance (May 5) of the event. Please make your cheque payable to the London Humane Society with a memo to Bark in the Park.

We would like to thank you in advance for your interest in being a part of the Bark in the Park. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
